Please consider using the 6 Pack Universal Controller. It does all the features of this controller and a lot more. What is it? This is a CNC controll Note: This product is out of stock for a while. You must provide the stepper motors modules. You must also provide, program and install an ESP32 module, unless you select the option to have it provided.

When the optional ESP32 module is provided, it will be programmed with all the default settings and the relay as the spindle control. The X and Y axes have 2 motors drivers each. The 2 motor drivers for each of these axes bring added power and also have an auto squaring feature to square up your machine every time it homes.

I am happy to announce that it is finally working right. Here are some things I am excited about. The bulk of the code was very easy to port over, but getting very low jitter, step pulse timing took a long time to achieve.

This is not my first port of Grbl. My first port was to the PSoC5. That was much easier, but this was my first major project on the ESP A goal was to use the Arduino IDE to develop the code.

I thought it would make the project a lot more accessible to novice programmers that just need to make a few tweaks. I also tried to make the code easy to maintain with Grbl. The tick rate is typically about Hz. This means each task gets at least 1ms of time and the others wait. You can designate a high priority task to prevent these interruptions, but some tasks have watchdogs that must be reset so you need to give them some time.

You can set the tick rate higher, but I need a more than 50, hz step rate. That is not practical for the RTOS. These need the RTOS.

The normal Grbl way generate step pulse timing is to use interrupts. As long as you follow the rules for interrupts, they will interrupt the RTOS without any delays in very deterministic manner. The rules are about how much time you can spend in the interrupt and what things you can do in the interrupt.

The interrupt duration was not an issue because the code in the interrupt only takes a few micro seconds. What you can do in the interrupt took a while to figure out.Was playing on Youtube…saw a guy controlling steppers with a ESP32 and motor drivers…then started digging.

Tried to get the boards…then found a site for sale And here. Github page. I bought it from tindie. The esp has some great peripherals, uarts, spi, i2c, i2s, capacitive touch, bt, wifi… It seems more like the an expandable gcode sender than a controller. This board is the exception, because it only had three drivers and no 3d printer stuff hot ends, bed. Yes sorry. I mentioned it in my ZXY build log.

The sdcards work fine. Grbl is a little too touchy for a sand machine, but it works as advertised. It does occasionally reset, but not during a job. I also wish it was laid out longer and skinnier.

I am actually considering designing a new pcb with that portion and only two drivers. Sorry if specifically made for the zxy.

PyCNC check it out! I am working with a friend to get one built in the next week.

If you just compile it and load it onto an ESP32, it will create a virtual machine without any pins mapped. This allows you to safely test drive it without any attached hardware. Everything is functional including the WIFI and web user interface. Things like homing, that require feedback from actual switches cannot be done. The code should be compiled using the latest Arduino IDE.

I suggest starting with that if you don't have hardware yet. That is the Arduino version of Grbl, so keep that in mind regarding hardware setup. If you have questions ask via the GitHub issue system for this project. The roadmap is now on the wiki. The original Grbl is an awesome project by Sungeon Sonny Jeon. I have known him for many years and he is always very helpful. I have used Grbl on many projects. I only ported because of the limitation of the processors it was designed for. The core engine design is virtually unchanged.

The Wifi and WebUI is based on this project. There is a slack channel for the development this project. Ask for an Invite. This project requires a lot of work and often expensive items for testing.

We chose budget accommodations which was just right for us. These included some some self catering as well as a couple of hotel accommodations.

All were extremely clean and all the hosts and hostesses were extremely friendly and helpful. They provided us with maps, a route as well as suggestions for sightseeing and activities. All of these were right on target. A real bonus was the use of a cell phone while on the trip which was vey reassuring. I highly reccomend this company.

Sigfus was very accomodating when it came to answering every question--he even answered my question when he was out of the office sick. The entire self-drive course along the Ring Road was easy to follow. I mostly used the GPS, but the maps and atlas came in handy when trying to find locations the GPS did not recognize as well as letting me find other desinations of personal interest (like the gliderport just outside of Reykjavik).

Nordic Visitor impressed us from the start with instant replies to Emails and the ability to call Nordic Visitor using a 1800 number from Australia, as I did once, was great. I have to thank Helena for everything she did for us, including sorting the slight hiccup that occurred in our pickup from Oslo airport. The documentation presented to us was 1st class, maps, travel information, and we much appreciated the DVDs from Hurtigruten.

We loved everywhere we travelled, Trondheim, cruising the Fjords, Bergin, perhaps Flam was a highlight, getting there, the accommodation, the included meal, the train ride. As it turned out we did the train from Flam to Myrdal twice as the train to Oslo could not operate due to snow, so they sent us back to Flam and then a bus to Oslo.

Many thanks to Nordic Visitor and Helena, maybe Iceland is next. Your staff was very helpful setting up the trip with our special requests and making sure things were right while we were on the trip.

Our primary purpose for the trip was to see and photograph the Northern Lights, which we were able to do 2 lovely nights in a row. But the entire trip was great -- Iceland and its people are wonderful and we definitely want to return.

We have traveled independently many times but with a short stay of one week decided that going through a travel company would help us make best use of our time- and the ability to do a 'facilitated' self guided tour was perfect for us. We all agreed it was the best short break holiday we have ever had THANK YOU!. The information package was so good that a meeting with my travel agent was not required.

The map was so detailed we rarely needed anything else. All sites were thoughtfully laid out and were excellent. The package could not have been better. Hotels were all excellent and meals they provided were well above expectations.
